Introduction to Ovid

What is Ovid?

Ovid is a powerful web-based commercial software developed to search full-text and bibliographic databases, such as MEDLINE. All of the operators and shortcuts presented in this research guide are viable with an Advanced Search, which is the default search in Ovid . When combined with your search terms, these commands structure a query that is easily replicable and editable.  In Ovid, one can save searches (register for a free personal account), edit searches, print searches, export results to citation managers, and more.

Tufts subscribes to several databases via Ovid, including ACP Journal Club, CAB Abstracts, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, MEDLINE, and Global Health.  Once familiar with the basic features of the interface, searching skills can be applied to the many databases offered through Ovid. View the User Guide for each database for details on how to optimize searching in each.
