Contactless Pickup

  • Books, zines and DVDs from the SMFA Library are available for request through JumboSearch.
  • Click Log In in the upper right corner and enter your Tufts username and password.
  • Once you find an item you’d like to check out, click on the title to open the record, then click Request Item.
  • You can choose the SMFA Library as your pickup location, or if you prefer, choose Tisch Library and we will send the item there for you to check out.
  •  You'll receive an email notice when your item is available for pickup.  After you receive the notice, please contact smfalibrary@tufts.edu and let us know the date and time you plan to pick up your item.  Items may be picked up Monday through Thursday between 12 and 3 pm.  If you are unable to come to SMFA during regular pickup hours, please let us know and we will do our best to make other arrangements.

  • If you would like to have items mailed to you, choose Home Address as the pickup location for your request.  We will ship via UPS to addresses within the continental United States.  If you choose this option, a library staff member will contact you for your address after you place the request.

Renewing Items

If you'd like to keep your SMFA/Tufts items longer, you can renew them by logging into your account in JumboSearch.

  • Click Log In in the upper right corner and enter your Tufts username and password.
  • Once logged in, click your name in the upper right corner and choose My Loans from the drop-down menu.
  • Click Renew All at the top of your loan list, or click Renew next to a specific title to renew only that item.
  • If you're unable to renew, contact us at smfalibrary@tufts.edu.
  • To renew items borrowed through ILL, log in to ILLiad with your Tufts username and password and click Renew under the item's title.  You'll receive a notice when your renewal request is either approved or denied by the lending library.

Scan & Deliver

  • If you need a chapter or article from a book or journal in our collection, library staff can scan it for you.  If you already know the citation details, log on to ILLiad with your Tufts username and password. Choose either Article or Book Chapter from the left-hand side menu. Fill out the form and submit your request.
  • You can also request scans through JumboSearch by looking up the item you need and clicking Request Scanned Chapter or Pages, which will take you to the ILLiad request form.
  • Note that due to copyright guidelines the library will not scan more than:
    • Two chapters per book that amount to no more than 20% of the entire book.
    • One article per journal issue that amounts to no more than 20% of the journal issue.
  • More information about this service is available on the Tisch Library website

Interlibrary Loan Scan Requests

  • More information about this service is available on the Tisch Library website.

Online Course Reserves & Reading Lists

  • Summer 2021 course reserves will be online only, to ensure required materials are available to all students, whether on-campus or remote.
  • For students:
    • You will find online reserves in Canvas.  Log in and open your course, then click Reading Lists in the menu on the left.  This list will include links to any e-books, online readings, and streaming media your instructor has made available through the library.
  • For instructors:
    • You can create your online reserve list in Canvas.  Log in and open your course, then click Reading Lists in the menu on the left.
    • For detailed instructions, see the short training video on the Tisch Library website, or click here for written directions.  If you’d like to schedule a demonstration over Zoom, contact Lauren at lauren.kimball_brown@tufts.edu.
    • You can add library-owned online resources (such as articles, e-books, and streaming videos) to your list.
    • If you add a physical item to your list, you’ll see a pop-up form where you’ll enter details about what portion of the material your students need.  The library will purchase e-books and digital media when possible, or digitize physical items in our collection and make them available to your students online.  Note that only materials your students will be required to read, view, or listen to can be digitized.  Details about our online reserves policy can be found here, and short instructions for the pop-up form are available here.
    • The library can also create your Reading List for you.  To submit a request by email, contact Lauren at lauren.kimball_brown@tufts.eduPlease include your course name and number, a list of titles, and details about what portion of each title your students will need access to online.
