Synthetic Biology

Articles and Other Documents

Use index and abstract databases to obtain an overview of publications on a topic.  Some of these databases also provide sophisticated citation searching tools and high-quality metadata.

Search the Tufts Catalog on titles, subject headings, or keywords to locate specific journals and conference proceeding related to synthetic biology as well as related subject headings such as genetic engineering or biomedical engineering.

Patents are government-issued documents that protect the owners of intellectual property from infringement by others.  They also provide insight into the workings of inventions and leads on companies and research-focused entities working in a particular industry.  Because of its connection to living organisms, the patentability of synthetic biology is widely debated.

Important: any attempt to patent, license, or distribute technologies developed while using Tufts resources should be discussed first with the Tufts Technology Transfer Office (TTT).
