Members of the Tufts community can access a pass for online access to the New York Times while on campus or off-campus.
Once activated, your academic pass will provide access to NYTimes.com from any location.
The pass is valid for 364 days, at which point you will need to re-activate your pass.
After you have created your account, you can download free NYTimes smartphone or iPad apps by visiting NYTimes.mobile or your app store.
Q: I already have a paid subscription, how can I get access through the Tufts Libraries subscription?
A: You must ask that your current subscription be canceled before you will be able to activate your account under the Tufts Libraries' subscription.
Contact the New York Times at 1-800-591-9233 or 1-800-698‑4637.
We've heard reports of success using the chat feature to cancel existing subscriptions too (Log into your account> Account Settings > Cancel my subscription > Chat or call > Chat).
Q: Why can’t I log in?
A: You must first activate your account from Tufts network by using the https://myaccount.nytimes.com/grouppass/access link to create an account (see access instructions above if you are accessing from off campus).
Q: Why am I asked to login on some occasions and not others?
A: Your browser cache or history may have cleared itself. Go to NYTimes.com and log back in.
Q: Does the Tufts Libraries NYT subscription have any restrictions?
A: Yes, our access does not include e-reader editions, Premium Crosswords, Times Insider or The New York Times Crosswords apps. NYTimes apps are not supported on all devices.
Because of certain copyright restrictions, access to archived articles within the date range 1923-1980 is limited. Within this date range, you may only open 5 PDF articles per day with your academic pass. Use the Historical New York Times subscription to access archival content without limits on articles.
Q: How do I renew my pass after 364 days have passed?
A: After expiration, you may activate a new pass by returning to the pass sign-up page using one of the links listed above under “Gaining access,” depending on whether you are on campus or off campus. Once there, click on the link for existing accounts.
