Start by asking:
- What publishers are publishing the books you read or cite?
- Where do your colleagues publish?
- What publishers is the library buying from in this area? (Ask Us!)
- Do you have a preference about publishing with a large commercial publisher vs. a university press vs. a fully open access publisher?
Browse for other publisher options:
- See the Resources box on this page for book catalogs and resources for finding publishers
Once you've identified potential publisher(s), consider:
- Does the publisher publish in your subject area?
- What type of book do you want to publish? Is it a monograph, an edited volume, a textbook, etc.?
- Browse the publisher's catalog to see if they're publishing that type of book, and in your subject area
- What is the process to submit an inquiry or proposal for a book?
- Look for a page on their website like "Publish with us" or "Information for authors"
- If you'd like to publish open access, are there OA options and what is the cost?
- Look for information about book processing charges, or sharing in repositories
You can also reach out to us and we'll help identify and evaluate potential publication venues! After we talk about your project, we'll look into possible publishers and share back a document with publishers, details about their possible relevance or related titles, open access options, and information about how to submit a proposal.
