A few easy-to-use tips will greatly improve the relevance of your search results, no matter which resource you search.
Sample search: What is the mind-body relationship between drug therapy and pain management on low back pain in the elderly?
Increase your results. If your search is of such a narrowly focused nature as to return just a small number of results, eliminate one of the less-important concepts.
This sample search above returns very few results. Try eliminating mind-body relationship and maybe even pain management.
Use synonyms. In the example above, you may retrieve more results by typing (elderly or senior citizens). Your entire search would look like this: low back pain and (elderly or senior citizens) and drug therapy and pain management and mind-body relationship
Use an asterisk to retrieve alternate word endings. therap* will return therapy, therapeutic, therapies, etc.
Reduce your results:
- low back pain is too broad of a search. Try adding a population, an intervention or an outcome. Any combination of those aspects will increase the relevance and amount of your results.
Use database limits:
CINAHL: Scrolling down the main search page you'll see limits for publication date, language, special interest (occupational therapy is an option), gender and age group. Select as many as are relevant to your research question.
PsycInfo: Scrolling down the main search page you'll see a long list of limits. Note that you can limit by a specific journal title, a test or measure, age groups and other factors.
