Media Production Support

The Tisch Digital Design Studio (DDS) features a recording room (by reservation) for both video and audio recording.  The space is 12' x 16' and is equipped with the following hardware and software:

  • Sliding black velvet backdrop
  • Green screen
  • Pre-set lighting grid with options to dim individual panels
  • Sony a6600 with Rode Video MicPro and tripod
  • 2 Rode NT1000 Studio Condenser microphones on swivel mount boom arms with pop filter
  • 2 Rode NT100 Studio Condenserr microphones on table stands with pop filterr
  • Scarlett 18i8 audio interface
  • iMac with Adobe Creative Cloud, Audacity, Apple applications
  • 2 piece conference table
  • White board

For students wanting to borrow video cameras, microphones, or tripods for field recording, the Tisch Circulation Desk has a limited equipment pool for short-term loan at no cost.  

DDS Staff are happy to help orient students to all equipment located in our space or at the Circulation desk. 

Software Support

DDS supports 16 Mac workstations running a variety of media software including:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Audacity
  • Final Cut Pro X and other Apple products such as GarageBand and iMovie

Learning to use new software takes time and practice.  DDS offers select open workshops for those looking to get hands on training.  We also highly recommend signing up for Udemy and following their training videos for the software you are working in.  These video tutorials are comprehensive and cover almost every tool you’ll need to start working in a new software.  For instructions on how to sign-up check out this guide provided by TTS.

While you can use the pre-installed recording applications on your phone, we recommend downloading an application that provides more granular options and settings, such as:
 

Free applications for conducting interviews

The applications listed below are free for download and easy to use.
 
  • VoiceMemo (Apple) 
  • ASR VoiceRecorder (Android)
  • Zoom (Android l Mac l Windows l iPhone) - free for Tufts students, guests  must create free account prior to use

Audio Editing Applications

Any application that allows you to split, rearrange, and duplicate  audio files can produce interesting and dynamic videos.  Below are application that provide the essential tools for video editing for a variety of setups.  
 
Recommended Free Applications
  • Adobe Premiere (Windows, Mac) - Free with your Tufts credentials
    • How do I access Adobe Creative Cloud?
      • Please follow these instructions to access Adobe Creative Cloud:Go to www.adobe.com
      • Click on “Sign In”, in upper right corner
      • Enter your Tufts Email address (Emma.Jumbo@tufts.edu)
      • Enter your Tufts Username (“ejumbo01”) and password on the single sign-on screen
      • Authenticate using Two-factor authentication (2FA)
      • Download the Adobe Creative Cloud software to your personal machine

DISCLAIMER: This license is active for use for the Spring Semester through May 31, 2020. If you want to continue to use Adobe Creative Cloud after the May 31 expiration date, you will need to purchase a personal license.
