Fletcher Guide for Preparation of Dissertations: Format

Review of Format

Ginn Library reference staff will review one chapter and part of the bibliography for citation format. The point of this review is to HELP YOU as you proceed toward dissertation defense and completion, so that you do not have to correct the citations at the last minute.

format

All papers should be double-spaced to fit 8.5 x 11 pages.

Margins

Top: one inch

Bottom: below footnotes and page number, at least .75 inch

Left and right margins: 1.5 inches

All fonts must be embedded fonts. Use a TrueType font, NOT a scalable font.

Use 10-12 point for text; 1 or 2 point smaller for footnotes

Should be consecutive for the entire paper, the first page of the first chapter being "1."

Bibliography and appendices are included in the total pagination.

Pages may be numbered either at the top or the bottom of the page.

Pages before page 1 may be numbered with small roman numerals or not numbered at all. No page number should appear on the title page.
