Community Health 188-10: Immigrant and Refugee Health

Tufts Libraries Discontinuing RefWorks

After careful consideration of the costs, usage statistics, and alternative options, Tisch Library has decided that we will be discontinuing our RefWorks license for the Tufts community as of Dec 31, 2019.

Migration

If you are a current RefWorks user, we encourage you to explore other software options and migrate any sources you would like to keep.

Library staff are happy to assist you in this migration and to answer questions about upgrading to alternative options.

Contact your liaison librarian or one of the contacts listed on this page for help.

Alternatives

Alternative software includes:

  • Zotero (browser plugin that works with Chrome, Safari, and Firefox) *a librarian favorite
  • EndNote (desktop program with web backup) *tends to be highly used in STEM fields
  • EndNote Basic (web-based program) *similar functionality to RefWorks
  • Mendeley (desktop and web-based program that includes document markup and social networking features)

All of these options have similar features to RefWorks: allowing you to automatically pull in citations (and in some cases full-text) from databases and web pages, organize and annotate your sources, and create automatically-formatted bibliographies and footnote/parenthetical references.

For Alumni

For alumni, no longer currently affiliated with Tufts: Zotero, EndNote Basic, and Mendeley are all free options open to all. EndNote Desktop is provided to current members of the Tufts community, but a standalone license could be purchased directly. Likewise, if you wish to continue with RefWorks, you could also pursue a direct license.
