Background Info and Reference Sources

Subject specific reference materials can help you to gain broad-based knowledge of your field, through vocabulary, factual information, additional references, and bibliographies. Try a subject search in the catalog to browse our electronic and print reference works, or take a look at some of these selected resources. 

Reference Databases

Reference databases provide access to a wide variety of encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, and other resources that are vital for building knowledge of a subject early in the research process or simply for reading up on unfamiliar terms or concepts. Below are just a few examples of databases to use when developing keywords, exploring topics, and familiarizing yourself with new ideas:
