Engineer's Guide to the Library

A guide to finding information and using the library from an engineering perspective.

Step 1: Write your topic as a question or hypothesis

Think about your topic, and write it down as a question you are trying to answer, or a hypothesis you are trying to find evidence for.

Example

This example is taken from a Human Factors Engineering class. The student was interested in how video games often use well-timed rewards (loot, leveling up, etc.) to keep players hooked on the game. The student wondered if the timing of the rewards made a difference in the player's engagement; would a player lose interest if rewards were provided too often or not often enough?

Based on these ideas, the student came up with this question:

What is the optimal timing of rewards in a video game to promote long-term user engagement?
