Engineer's Guide to the Library

A guide to finding information and using the library from an engineering perspective.

Library Services

In addition to providing access to books, articles, and other information resources, the library provides a number of services to assist students and faculty.

Help with Library Resources

The library has a number of subject specialists whose primary job is assisting students and faculty in finding the information they need. We love helping students, but can't help you if you don't contact us. You can reach us through email, or arrange an in-person or Zoom consultation for more in-depth assistance.

For more immediate assistance, you can also call the library or chat with a librarian.

Finding and Working with Data

The library can help you find a wide range of data sets. Check the research guide on Social Science Data and Statistics Resources (which is actually useful for most kinds of data), or contact the Social Science Data Librarian or the Research Data Librarian.

If you need assistance working with data, including identifying the appropriate tools for analysis and visualization, you can chat or make appointments with experts in the DataLab. The website also includes links to data software tools available from Tufts.

If you need to create a data management plan (often required as part of research grant applications), the library can help.

Help with Multimedia Presentions

If you need to create a video presentation or podcast for a class assignment, or a research poster, the Digital Design Studio can help. The studio provides the tools you need, such as a recording room, media equipment, and large format and 3D printers. It also has experts who can help you use the tools and learn best practices for effective presentations,.
