Use and Attribution - Government Resources

Many of the images included in these databases allow wide reuse within the United States, with proper citation. However, check the license information accompanying each image for the exact allowances. More information on specifically the National Library of Medicine's policies on reuse can be found here.

Medical images and teaching cases compiled by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), most approved for personal use.
NIGMS Image and Video Gallery
Scientific photos, illustrations, and videos collected by the National Institute of of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS) under a CC Sharealike 3.0 License, which allows for non-commercial use, as long as you credit and license your new creations under the same terms.
Open-i (National Library of Medicine)
A service of the NLM, images are pulled from PubMed Central articles, the History of Medicine division, and private institutions. See the license information accompanying each image to determine reuse permissions.
