EC 0114: Behavioral Economics

This research guide is designed to help students in Professor Gee's sections of EC 114 with their research project.

How can I tell if my article is an experiment?

  • Sometimes "experiment" will be included in the title, which makes figuring this out easy. However, it's always good to double check.
  • The introduction will often include a brief overview of the experiment, or at least reference the methods used.
  • There will be a methods/experimental design section of the paper. This is often where you can find the hypothesis/hypotheses clearly stated.
  • The paper will include discussion of results, implications of the project, and suggestions for future research.
  • Since you will need to replicate this study, make sure that the experiment is more than an analysis of existing data, but a project that gathers new data.

When searching for articles, make sure to avoid "review" articles for this project, as are not experiments, but rather discussions of the current state of the scholarly conversation on a topic.

If you have an overwhelming number of results, you can add "experiment" to your search string, but make sure to always double check the results.
