Browse the seed collection onsite at the SMFA Library and bring the seeds you’d like to use to the circulation desk. We won’t check them out to your library account, but we’ll note what you take so our inventory is up to date.
If you’re based on the Tufts Medford campus, you can browse the online seed catalog and use our request form to request seeds. We’ll send them to the Tisch Library and you’ll receive an email when they’re available to pick up.
Returning seeds is not required to use the seed library. If you have leftover seeds, you can give them to the library for someone else to use. We also encourage you to save seeds from the plants you grow and “return” them to our collection.
See below for information about how to save seeds. Please use our seed donation form for each type of seed you donate or return, or fill out a paper form at the SMFA Library. To return seeds from the Medford campus, please contact Jess Spear at Tisch Library.

Books at the SMFA Library:
The Seed Library at the SMFA Library is a collection of seeds available to members of the SMFA and Tufts communities and other SMFA Library users.
The Seed Library is an extension of the SMFA Garden project, which was funded by the 2020 Tufts Green Fund.
Our Seed Catalog is a list of seeds currently available. The list is in alphabetical order by name, and you can click the name of each seed to find more information about the plant and how to grow it.
