The privatization of water is a major trend which impacts availability of water services to the public. Since many privatized systems are under the control of publically held or private corporations - both domestic and international - business sources provide additional information and insight into the dynamics of this industry.
Research tip: In many business databases, as well as in government websites such as the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC), information on companies which are publically-held (e.g. sell shares on public exchanges to the general public) can be retrieved by searching on stock ticker symbols. For example, the ticker for Aqua America, one of the U.S.'s largest public water utilities is, suitably, WTR.
