When to use microdata

Microdata is individual level data that can be used for a broad range of statistical analyses and cross-tabulations. Because of privacy concerns and because it could otherwise be identifiable to specific individuals, it is generally available only for large geographies, such as the state or national level. If your research question is about a smaller region, consider aggregate data.
